Essential Function
The counselor at Spring Hill Middle School contributes directly to student success by helping develop the whole child through improvements in academic achievement, career and post-secondary planning, and personal and social development. Further, the goal is to ensure that all students are well prepared to be successful in the 21st Century.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead: Plan and promote intervention programs at the middle school level. Work with students in identifying career and college opportunities.
  • Advocate: Advocate for student experiences that broaden students’ educational, career, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Counseling: Counsel individual students, groups or families as needed.
  • Team and Collaborate: Through SAT/SIT, the counselor will lead grade-level teams and coordinate resources to improve student achievement and responsiveness to student needs.
  • Data: Gather and analyze state assessment, Measures of Academic Progress, and local test scores to determine a student’s need for support and placement in supplemental educational programs.
  • School System: Participate in school decision-making and in activities, which contribute to the effectiveness of the school (site-based council, building leadership team, grade-level teams, etc.).
  • Scheduling: Manage school-wide and individual scheduling needs.
  • Transition: Assist in student transition to middle school and to high school.
