Hello My Name Is...

Mary Honnold

Hello everyone,

This is my 13th year teaching at Spring Hill. Teaching is something I have wanted to do for many years. So, after a 20-year career working in retail and as a manufacturer’s representative for Lenox China, I decided if I was going to teach, it was now or never. So, I returned to school to get a Masters of Arts in Education with a certification in Family and Consumer Sciences. My undergraduate degree was in textiles & clothing. My undergraduate degree came from Iowa State University, and my graduate degree came from the University of Phoenix. I also took additional hours from Kansas State University. I remain and always will be a faithful Iowa State fan! Go Cyclones!! I also love my Royals and have been a faithful fan since I was very young!

This year I will be teaching Career & Life Planning, Foods & Nutrition, and Family and Consumer Science for 6th AND 7th grades. In career and life planning we will be learning about decision making, banking, fraud, insurance, the economy, and careers. During the second semester we will be doing a career exploration unit that will have the students be assigned a job and have to plan a budget based on the income. In foods we will make a variety things from all parts of the plate.  I will be making every effort to get students into the labs as soon as possible. In seventh grade FACS we will do a sewing project, a foods unit, a child development unit, and some health. In 6th grade FACS we will talk about self-esteem, decision making, families, friendships, and finally I plan to do a sewing project.

If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will return your call or e-mail when I have a plan or at the end of the school day.
