Hello! My Name Is...

Stacy Floyd

Eighth Grade Language Arts Teacher

Course Description: Eighth-grade Language Arts is a class that combines language, literature, writing and speaking. It focuses on the expansion of each student’s oral and written communication skills as the development of their reading skills. The literature expands on the connection between the reader and writer, helping students understand the relationships that shape their literature and their lives.

The written emphasis is on the growth of each student’s ability to revise his or her own work and to recognize the quality of that work. To aid in that development, students will study and utilize the Six-Writing Traits.

Units: Although students will be writing on many topics throughout the year, there will be several major units that will include reading, writing, vocabulary and oral presentations:

Reading is an important aspect of learning in 8th grade. I would like to see them read for at least 10-20 minutes every night. Students will also be assigned several books, with a variety of genres, throughout the year: The Outsiders, Holocaust, and  Dystopian are a few. They will also be completing projects that tie into each assigned novel.

Please encourage your student to check Skyward, the 8th grade Google Homework Calendar, and Google Classroom if he or she has questions about an assignment.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
