Welcome to Healthy Living Class! This is a new class that combines health and physical education into one class. Each student will have Healthy Living on MW or TTH and every other Friday. To clarify, PE will be two days a week and health will be on every other Friday in the classroom.

In health, students will work on various projects and activities that will help them have a better understanding of themselves and develop healthy habits to help live a well-balanced life. Major units will include: Health and Wellness, Building Self-Esteem, Family and Social Health, Growth and Development, Nutrition, Exercise and Fitness, Basic First Aid, Disease Cause and Prevention, Drug Awareness, and Healthy Decision Making Skills. Most assignments will be completed in class however, there will be a few assignments that will require computer work at home. The school nurses will also be assisting in teaching some of our classes, plus presentations from the SRO officer and the SH Fire Department.

On gym days, students will be required to dress out in gym attire. The school will issue a padlock and PE locker to secure their belongings. In class students will learn fundamentals, skills, and strategies in a variety of sports and recreational games through drills and modified games. Students also participate in a Fitness Gram test, which measures fitness levels in the areas of: cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance. At the end of third quarter, students have the opportunity to participate in Hoops For Heart where they raise money for the American Heart Association.
