Hello My Name Is...

Jerry Hunsaker

Hi and welcome to American History class. I am excited to have another great year in store for the young minds that enter my class. While the main objective in the classroom is the the students to learn as much as possible, one of my goals in the classroom is to get the students ready for the adjustment to the high school level as they are only a year away!

A little about myself: I am originally from Nixa, Missouri (yes, I am for the dark side GO MIZZOU!), I graduated from Baker University with a degree in History in 2001. I lettered in varisty football there as well. I have been happily teaching at Spring Hill School District since 2003. I have received a Masters Degree in Educational Technology from Mid America Nazarene University. I currently coach football at the high school and am the head basketball coach here at the middle school. I have been blessed to be married to my wife Amy and we were blessed together in May of 2008 with our son Trey. I have pretty simple hobbies, SPORTS and COMPETITION. I also enjoy reading historical fictions along with putting together plastic model replicas of airplanes.

Below is a synopsis of American History Class.

Course Objectives: This is a survey course that will move through the early part of American History from American Revolution through the reconstruction of the South. Projects throughout the course, will allow students to further investigate areas of personal interest. Students will leave the class by the end of the school year with a strong understanding of the basic principles of American history and its importance in the world through analysis of primary and secondary sources.

Evaluation: Students will be evaluated through written assignments, chapter quizzes, unit tests, projects, oral questions and answer sessions, and a final exam.

Instruction: I will attempt to use several different teaching styles to instruct the material. However, learn to listen and take good notes because I primarily use the lecture/discussion techniques.

Local Objectives:

•Produce a variety of writing formats

•Analyze Primary and Secondary Sources

•Understand the importance of studying History

•Cause and Effect of the Civil War

•Importance of discoveries and how they impact our lives today
