Travis Brown - STEM

Requirements: None
Length: 1 semester

In STEM I, II, & III, students will be presented with various challenges that will help them to develop skills and tools relevant for application to science, technology, engineering and mathematics tasks.  Students will be introduced to the engineering design process with a special emphasis on defining problems and developing possible solutions. Past projects have involved 3D printing, building to scale, designing and building stable structures, circuit exploration and robotics introduction.


STEM III (Competition) 

Available for 8th Grade

Requirements: Completion of STEM I, STEM II, and teacher approval

Length:1 semester

STEM III: Comp. is the culmination of the middle school STEM program.  Students who take this course will be organized into teams to compete in a regional or national STEM competition such as Future Cities, the Burns and McDonald Battle of the Brains, or the Army Educational Outreach Program’s eCyberMission. 

*Students taking this course in the 2020-2021 school year will be competing in the Future Cities competition. 

Intro to Engineering

Available for 8th Grade
Requirements: Enrollment in Algebra
Length: 1 semester

Engineering Applications courses provide students with an overview of the practical uses of a variety of engineering applications. Topics covered usually include hydraulics, pneumatics, computer interfacing, robotics, computer-aided design, computer numerical control, and electronics.
