Continental Math League

Continental Math League began this week at Spring Hill Middle School. Thirty-three 6th graders participated in the Euclidean Division contest during Advisory in the Library.
Invitations are extended to 6th grade students who have either participated in prior years, are referred by their teacher, or scored well on previous math tests. An academic competition of five 6-question meets, CML offers challenging logic problems for students who enjoy applying their math skills.
The top six scorers earn the title ‘meet representative’ and their test scores are entered nationally. Students earning a perfect 30/30 score on the season receive a national medal. The top two SHMS finalists earn a medal from CML and all competitors receive certificates of participation.
Benefits of participating include extended practice in applying math concepts and an improvement in critical thinking and analytical reasoning abilities. SHMS CML sponsor, Joanne Kaechele, noted that CML is a natural feed into Scholars Bowl, which provides academic competition for 7th and 8th grade students.
